Karla E. Williams, MD

Dr. Williams is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine at the University of Alabama (UAB) in Birmingham, AL. She is native of South Carolina where she received her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed an internal medicine residency and served as a chief resident at UAB. She now has the pleasure of serving as an Assistant Program Director and the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. Her passion is advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in graduate medical education and care delivery. Her mission is to foster initiatives that bring awareness and address the presence and effects of bias in the medical environment. The ultimate goal is to change culture and cultivate learning and clinical environments that are just and inclusive for all trainees, faculty and patients.
